Michigan Trip - Mackinaw

On our final day of vacation we drove to Mackinaw, about a 2 hour drive from Traverse City.  The weather was very cloudy and rainy so we were unable to view the lake view from the highway as we drove north.  As we rounded the corner of the highway, we saw the Mackinaw bridge standing tall in the cloudy weather.  But, as we got closer and crossed it, the sun started to shine a little.  The bridge is 5 miles across and the kids liked hearing the crates beneath the tires make the loud rhythmic sound.  We arrived across the bridge and visited the visitor center in St Ignace that looked at the bridge from the south side.  Nathan and Ashley threw rocks in the lake and we enjoyed the beautiful sights and sounds.

We drove back over the bridge and went to the main shopping strip where we bought fudge and a few toys for the kids.  We eat dinner at the Dixie Saloon with a great view of the lake.  We ordered the well known fish and chips with a Guinness beer.  It was tasty!  We visited an old light house right by the shore, but did not stay long because there were so many fish flies buzzing in town. They do not bite, but they are very annoying. The fish flies covered everything from your cars to buildings.  We went back to the hotel where we had some fun at an indoor pirate water park.  Nathan loved going down the water slides.  He even did not mind the large bucket of water pouring down at times.  What a fish!

The next day we drove 6 hours to Detroit, sat at the airport for 5 hours because our plan was delayed and did not get home until 2:30am!  Good thing we took the next day off just to recover from our vacation.

It was a great family trip and enjoyed our time together.

Until next time....
